Keeping spare parts stock under control

Too much stock locks up your money; too little sends customers away. Control comes from knowing what moves.
Know your fast movers
Oil, filters, brake shoes, cables, bulbs and chain kits for your most common models. Never run out of these.
Set a reorder level
For each fast-moving part, decide the quantity at which you reorder. Check the low-stock list weekly.
Record every part used
Every part issued to a job card and every counter sale should come out of stock. Otherwise your stock count drifts.
Count regularly
Count a few shelves every week instead of everything once a year.
Slow movers
Parts not used in 90 days are money sitting still. Return, sell at a discount or stop buying them.
